Martin Engelien got the idea for the people who are so well known, how popular the concert series, in the middle of the backstage area of “Wetten dass…” when he was shocked to demote his musician colleagues from creative makers to camera statists during rehearsals. Out of pure love for music and having fun playing, Engelien then launched the GO MUSIC concert series, which started in May 1996 in the Jazzkeller Krefeld.
The concept of GO MUSIC is as simple as it is effective: old classics from pop, rock and jazz are freely interpreted “unpredictably” on stage by the performers, to the surprise and enthusiasm of both the audience and the musicians involved. In the 25 years of existence of the GO MUSIC concert series, there have been around 250 different band line-ups with a total of well over 300 participants on the extensive tours at home and abroad.
For the 25th anniversary of GO MUSIC, a double CD is now available with the interpretations of 16 rock and pop classics such as “Whole Lotta Love” (Led Zeppelin), “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” (Procul Harum), “Skyfall” (Adele ), “The House Of The Rising Sun” (Bob Dylan), “Time After Time” (Cindy Lauper) or “Man In The Mirror” (Michael Jackson), sung live and recorded on last year’s GO MUSIC concert tours, by an illustrious and as usual an excellent group of artists who normally work for bands and artists such as Glasperlenspiel, Zucchero, Pur, Elton John, Phil Collins, Iron Butterfly, Pink Cream 69, Tigers of Pan Tang, Michael Jackson and many more.
And as soon as live concerts and tours are possible again, Martin Engelien will of course celebrate his birthday and anniversary as a musician on another GO MUSIC tour with all participants and the audience. It’s as sure as the amen in church. GO MUSIC!
